How to Claim Michigan Lottery Prizes
If you are lucky enough to win a lottery prize in Michigan, the next step is perhaps the most exciting part - claiming your money! There are various options available to you, depending on the value of your prize, so find out more about how to claim.
The claim period in the Great Lake State is one year from the draw date, regardless of how much you win. It is a good idea to sign the back of your ticket as soon as possible and then keep it somewhere safe until you are ready to come forward.
Here’s how to claim prizes on tickets that have been purchased in-store.
Prizes worth $600 or less
You can claim prizes up to $600 directly from Michigan Lottery retailers. There may be some situations, particularly with prizes at the higher end of this range, where a retailer does not have sufficient cash on-site to be able to redeem your winning ticket, but many stores will be able to pay out. The alternative option is to claim by mail.
Prizes Between $600 and $99,999
For any prize above $600, you must provide photo ID, such as a passport or driver’s license, along with your Social Security card and a Ticket Receipt Form. There are various ways to claim – you can mail in your winning ticket, make an appointment to visit one of the Michigan Lottery’s regional offices, or use one of the drop-off boxes at a claim center.
The addresses of the regional claim centers are shown in the table below:

Prizes of $100,000 and Above
If you win $100,000 or more, you need to claim your prize by visiting the Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing. You’ll need to call ahead to schedule an appointment, and make sure to take your photo ID and Social Security card.
Online Prizes
If you play online and win a prize, the process is even more straightforward. First, you don’t even need to check your tickets as you will always be notified of any wins. Prizes of up to $600 are paid straight into your player account. For payouts of up to $99,999, you just need to complete an online claim form and provide the relevant identification before the money is transferred. If you win $100,000 or more, contact the Michigan Lottery’s Player Relations team on 844-887-6836 so that arrangements can be made for the prize to be claimed in person at the central office in Lansing.
Annuity Prizes
If you win the jackpot in Mega Millions, Powerball, Lucky for Life or Lotto 47, you get to choose whether to take the money as a lump sum or an annuity over a set number of years. If you want the cash option, you must make this decision within 60 days of claiming your prize, otherwise you will receive the annuity.
Tax on Prizes
The Michigan Lottery does not withhold any taxes on prizes of $600 and below. For payouts between $600 and $5,000, all you need to do is report your winnings to the IRS and the Michigan Department of Treasury. Larger amounts will be subject to federal tax – starting at 24 percent – and state tax of 4.25 percent. It is always a good idea to consult a financial expert in the event of a big win.
