Mega Millions offers huge jackpots twice a week, starting at $20 million and sometimes growing beyond $1 billion. Drawings take place at 11:00 PM ET in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mega Millions began in 1996 with just six participating states, including Michigan. It has expanded over the last three decades and become one of the largest lotteries in the world. Tickets are now available to buy in 47 U.S. jurisdictions.
The record jackpot has been broken regularly since a number of changes were made to the game in 2017, with several players winning 10-figure prizes. Michigan is among the most successful states, having been home to some of the biggest payouts.
To win the jackpot, you have to match five main numbers and the Mega Ball. There are also several other ways to get prizes.

Jackpots Won in Michigan
Mega Millions has created some of the biggest jackpots in the world, and in Michigan. Read the stories behind three of the biggest wins.
1. $1.05 Billion - January 22, 2021
A four-member lottery club from Oakland County – the Wolverine FLL Club – snapped up this state-record jackpot. They had not been regular players, but teamed up after seeing a sign for the $1 billion grand prize. The lucky winners preferred not to say too much about their plans for the money, but they did want to make some charitable donations and insisted they would look after their families for generations to come.
2. $208 Million - April 22, 2005
This big jackpot went to Ralph and Mary Stebbins from Port Huron. They had purchased their ticket from the local River District Supermarket and decided to take the lump-sum payment of $124.7 million. They wanted to buy a farm, complete with a ‘show cow’, and Ralph also wanted a garage to house a 1963 corvette.
3. $181 Million – May 9, 2000
In 2000, when Mega Millions was still known as The Big Game, Larry Ross from Shelby Township won half of a $363 million jackpot. He had bought 98 tickets while on his lunch break at work, after finding a $100 bill and deciding to buy a hot dog and use the rest to play the lottery.
